"Why do I love Mission Waco?"

August 9, 2017

Mission Waco is a great place to be and experience. My first time ever being at Mission Waco was at the end of my 7th grade school year. My two best friends, Ta-Lia and Tai-Jhanae had asked me multiple times to come and visit and try to get into the program. After they finally convinced me, I rode on the van after school to check it out.

Boy do they know how to make a first impression! I loved the youth center, the directors, and the children who were enrolled in the program. They had everything a kid could spend their time on instead of it being wasted. They provided tutoring which helped me want to do my homework, activities about nutrition, time to hang out, and supplies to play and exercise with friends. They also had Bible study which helped me to connect with God on a deeper and more religious level.

Ever since that first day I’ve been very involved with a lot of things Mission Waco does. I’ve been in multiple plays, in a talent show, ran a marathon, went to Camp of the Hills, did Kings Club, and volunteered in the office organizing and filing papers for multiple employees. We also took a spring break trip to Galveston and a summer trip to San Diego.  All of these things were and are very fun and I loved doing them.

I came into this program expecting the worst and not ever considering coming back and got the total complete opposite. I always encourage and bring up Mission Waco to every friend and family member I have.

This place has taught me how to love, encourage, inspire, be creative, and lend a helping hand. When I get older I see myself coming to help out or even work with Mission Waco.
