This summer I was given the opportunity to work with both the Youth Program and Urban Expressions at Mission Waco and to say that I enjoyed my experience is simply not enough.
Coming into the program I had no idea what to expect, and I definitely didn’t think I would walk out a different person. I learned so much in my short time with the students. Every one of those students has left a permanent mark on my heart and in just three months have helped me become who I am today.
As I got to know the students a little more, I began to see that each bears a different and unique portrait of strength and joy, and I learned a lot about strength and joy from them. I am astounded by how drastically my narrow understanding of faith, perseverance, and so many other things broadened simply by spending three months with the kids at Mission Waco. I never knew that loving others and being loved by others could look like so many different things. To say that I am thankful for this experience is an understatement. Though there were some days that were harder than others, I wouldn’t trade my summer for anything else.
My last day at Mission Waco was difficult, to say the least, but I am eager to come back and see more of what God has for them
